Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour unbleached
  • 2 tsp baking powder
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup butter cold & cut into chunks
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Coloring
  • 1.5 tsp liquid food coloring red

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, stir flour and baking powder together. Set aside.
  2. Cream butter and sugar together until fluffy.
  3. Stir in the egg and vanilla extract until mixed.
  4. Slowly incorporate the dry ingredients until the dough has come together.
Coloring and Shaping
  1. Remove 2/3 of the dough to a separate bowl.
  2. Stir in the red food coloring to the remaining 1/3 of the dough until uniform in color.
  3. Roll red dough into a 1-inch slab and cut out heart shapes. Stack them together.
  4. Roll remaining regular dough out and cover each row of stacked hearts, keeping them together.
  5. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 1 hour to overnight.
Baking
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Line baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone mat.
  3. Remove cookie dough logs from fridge and slice into 1/2 inch rounds.
  4. Place onto prepared baking sheet, leaving 1 inch around each cookie.
  5. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until barely golden brown on the bottom.
  6. Remove from oven and cool on wire rack for 2 minutes before transferring completely to cool.
Serving
  1. Serve immediately or store in airtight containers for up to 3 days.

Notes
