Ingredients
  

Chicken
  • 1 whole whole chicken about 4-5 pounds
Beer
  • 1 can lager beer any light lager works well
Spices
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil for coating the chicken
  • 1 tablespoon paprika for seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional for heat

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the grill to medium heat (about 350°F).
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Pat the chicken dry with paper towels and rub the spice mixture all over the chicken, including under the skin.
  4. Open the can of beer and take a few sips to make it easier to fit into the chicken.
  5. Insert the beer can into the cavity of the chicken, ensuring it stands upright.
Grilling
  1. Place the chicken on the grill, standing upright with the beer can inside.
  2. Close the grill lid and cook for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F in the thickest part of the thigh.
  3. Rotate the chicken occasionally for even cooking.
  4. Once cooked, carefully remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for 10 minutes before removing the beer can.
  5. Carve and serve the chicken warm.
